Power Pipe - How does it work?

Power Pipe - A Falling Film Heat Exchanger

  • As waste water falls down the Power Pipe, it clings to the inner wall and falls in a very thin film
  • For this reason, the highly efficient Power Pipe must be installed vertically
  • The heat energy from this falling film of waste water is transferred easily and efficiently to the fresh water circulating in the Power Pipe's outer coils
  • As seen in the diagram (left), the result is the cool fresh water is heated, while the warm waste water is cooled
  • A 60-inch Power-Pipe System can raise the cold water temperature from 10°C (50°F) to as much as 24°C (75°C) under equal flow conditions
  • Because the incoming cold water is preheated before going in to the water heater and plumbing fixtures, the water heater uses less energy to raise the temperature of the water to the desired level for use, which saves money and increases the effective water heater capacity
